Most people I talk to tell me that "love" and "math" do not belong in the same sentence, but that is exactly what I hope to change! Hi, I'm Brad Jones—an educator, sports fan, and firm believer that there is strength in numbers. I currently serve as the Assistant Director of Student Support Services and Mathematics Specialist at the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes at Louisiana State University. I've spent the last 20 years as a math tutor/teacher/apologist trying to show others that fractions, radicals, and polynomials are not the evil beings they are made out to be. I know this because I was a struggling middle school math student brought to tears by those topics until my 8th-grade teacher helped me stop seeing all the negativity (last math pun, I promise) and have a much more positive outlook (that is the last one). I truly believe a firmer understanding of math and basic statistics helps learners to see the world more clearly, especially in seeing through some of the lies that are thrown in our faces daily from media sources and advertisements.
After serving as the Vice-President of LCLCA last year with a truly exceptional Executive Board, I am excited to begin my role as President and continue on the level of excellence set forth by many of our past presidents. I am perhaps more excited to connect all of the wonderful learning centers at institutions across the state of Louisiana in a meaningful way that will not only benefit them, but also the students who utilize their services. August is going to be a BIG month for us as we look to collaborate with all of you in professional development, and start our march to the ICLCA Conference in October and our very own LCLCA Symposium in February 2026.
